History

American Pacific University ("AmPac" or "University"), located in Honolulu, Hawaii, was originally founded Dec 13, 1994 and in April of 2005 received its non-profit status. At its inception, American Pacific University offered distance education courses via the correspondence method, as part of directed independent study. The purpose of the degree programs at AmPac was to provide academic excellence in learning acquired on a much more flexible basis than can be accomplished at traditional colleges and universities. The University began by offering degree level education in Hypnotherapy. In 1999, a doctoral degree in Esoteric Studies was added to the AmPac degree program offerings. Previous to the University offering these degrees, there was little, if any, other opportunities to study these subjects at a degree level in the United States.

American Pacific University offers degrees in Clinical Hypnotherapy at the Bachelor's, Doctoral, and Ph.D. levels and in Esoteric Studies at the Ph.D. and Doctorate levels via distance education by correspondence. Over the past 14 years, the University has graduated over 200 hundred students from around the world in these disciplines, and transcripts to include academic and attendance records are available to show the high standard of education these learners reached in their studies. Over the years, it has become evident that the source of many student referrals was recommendations from graduates and learners who were already working in the degree programs' fields.

In 2006, a decision was made to develop an online Master's Degree Program in Transpersonal Psychology, with a bachelor's level program to be integrated in the future. In keeping with the technological trend and increased use of computers at both work and home, it seemed only fitting that a sophisticated online program be developed. This program allows learners (students) to study at anytime and anywhere.

In 2007, after much review and consideration, American Pacific University strategically decided to incorporate two separate schools under the auspices of AmPac: 1) the School of Transpersonal Psychology housing the new Master's degree program, and 2) the School of Esoteric and Hypnotherapy Studies housing the original degree programs. In order to concentrate on the Master's degree in Transpersonal Psychology and to provide a quality first-rate education, effective July 2007, American Pacific University no longer accepts new learners in the Hypnotherapy and Esoteric Studies programs. However, learners currently enrolled in the University's Esoteric and Hypnotherapy Studies will complete their educational degrees, as intended. We anticipate the last student to complete and graduate from the school of Esoteric and Hypnotherapy Studies will be approximately in 2014.
