Mission And Purpose

Mission

To foster the integration of transpersonal and integrative psychology, in a learning and academic environment that emphasizes healing and the concept of the “whole” self – mind, body, and spirit.

Vision

American Pacific University is positioned to become a distance education leader in the 21st century in providing programs with an interdisciplinary focus that draws from both the fields of transpersonal and integrative psychology, lying the foundation to examine healing as a truly interconnected, "whole process."

Our Philosophy

The philosophy of the university is to provide the educational framework for learners to gain the knowledge and understanding of transpersonal psychology necessary to function as practitioners in their chosen field of interest and to overcome the limitations of the more traditional forms of education. American Pacific University provides not only an academic learning environment in the true sense but also allows learners to look deep within themselves and to achieve higher human potential.

American Pacific University and its staff believe that there are many ways to impart knowledge and that there is no one “right” way to do things. There are often many schools of thought, yet they all lead to enlightenment. “All paths lead to the light…..Don’t think that all wisdom lies in your school,” President Matthew B. James. Learners are encouraged to learn, ask questions, explore, and challenge the information they receive in our program. The learning process should always be an open and dynamic one. It is our goal that our learners will continue to develop into who they want to be, gain a new perspective on the world, and how they relate to it. “Whatever you think you are, you are more than that,” President Matthew B. James.

We believe that the teaching/learning interaction is one of mutuality between the learner and the educator, and that the responsibility for the learning outcomes has to be shared. American Pacific University’s role in this process is to provide an opportunity for academic pursuits of intellectual growth and development. Although learning on an intellectual level is of course extremely important, our learning process cannot be complete without acknowledging the importance of the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual components that are also parts of each and every one of us.
